Privacy Policy

File generation happens locally in your browser. We do not require an account for the tool, we do not receive the files you create, and we do not operate a server-side upload for generation.

Like most websites, we use analytics. Details are below so you know what loads in your browser.

Analytics and product metrics

We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand aggregated traffic (for example pages viewed, approximate location at country/region level, and technical data such as browser type). These services may use cookies or similar technologies. You can manage browser cookies through your device settings.

Your consent choices

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked before any analytics cookies are set; until you choose, Google Analytics runs in cookieless “consent mode” and Microsoft Clarity does not load. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer. Your choice is stored in your browser only.

Chrome extension

The Dummy File Generator Chrome extension does not collect, transmit or sell any data. Files are created on your device. Settings (your usual file type and size, download folder) are stored with Chrome’s sync storage, and the list of recent files (type, size and file name only) is stored locally in your browser; you can clear it at any time. The extension reads a web page only when you open it on that page (to check whether the page has an upload box) or when you choose to put a file into the page’s upload box — nothing from the page is stored or sent anywhere. The extension contains no analytics.

Command-line tool

The dummy-file-gen npm package runs entirely offline and collects no data.

Advertising

We use Google AdSense to show advertising on our editorial pages — guides, blog posts, QA scenarios, file-format references, the glossary and the upload-limits tables. Ads are never shown inside the file generator or the download panels.

Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet. Other third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads here and use cookies to do so.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before any advertising cookies are set; until you choose, advertising runs without personalisation under Google Consent Mode. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer.

You may opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
