A dummy file is a file that contains fake or random data but has a valid file extension and size. It is used primarily for testing purposes, such as verifying file upload functionality, testing storage limits, or checking network transfer speeds.

What file types can I generate?
The generator currently produces 28 formats: TXT, MD, VTT, HTML, PDF, DOCX, SVG, JPG, PNG, GIF, WEBP, MP3, WAV, MP4, WEBM, JS, TS, CSS, SCSS, JSON, CSV, XML, SQL, ZIP, YAML, INI, ENV, TOML. PDF, DOCX, ZIP, JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP and WAV files are structurally valid and open in normal viewers; MP3, MP4 and WebM are minimal shells intended for MIME-type and size tests rather than playback.
Is there a limit to the file size I can generate?
Yes — each file is capped at 512 MiB (536,870,912 bytes) because the whole file is built in browser memory before download. That covers common upload limits such as 5 MB, 10 MB, 25 MB and 100 MB.
Are the generated files safe?
Yes. Files are generated locally in your browser from fixed templates plus padding (spaces or zero bytes). They contain no executable code, macros, or random data from other sources.
Do you store any of the files I generate?
No, we do not store any files. All files are generated on-the-fly in your browser and are not uploaded to our servers. Your privacy and data security are our top priorities.
Can I use these files for automated testing?
Absolutely! Our tool is designed to help developers and QA engineers with automated testing. You can generate files with specific sizes and types to ensure your test cases are robust.
How do I generate a file with a specific size?
Select a file type, tick “Exact file size”, enter the amount in bytes, KB or MB (1 KB = 1,024 bytes), and click Generate. The downloaded file will be exactly that many bytes (WAV snaps to whole audio samples).
Can I generate multiple files at once?
The generator creates one file per click. For a quick bundle, the “Starter QA ZIP” button downloads a small set of sample JSON, CSV and text fixtures in one archive.
What is inside a padded file?
A small valid template for the format (for example a one-page PDF or a 1×1 PNG) followed by padding. Text formats are padded with spaces so JSON, CSV and XML stay parseable; PDF and DOCX padding is placed inside the document structure so they still open.
