How It Works

Dummy File Generator is designed to be intuitive and easy to use. Follow these simple steps to generate the dummy files you need for your testing and development projects.

Step-by-Step Guide

Select File Type

Pick a format from the catalog — search by name or extension, or filter by category (text, documents, media, code, data, config).

Specify File Size

Optionally tick “Exact file size” and enter a target in bytes, KB or MB (binary units: 1 KB = 1,024 bytes), up to 512 MiB per file. Text formats also accept your own body text.

Generate and Download

Click Generate. The file is assembled in browser memory and downloaded as dummy.<ext>. You can also copy a share link that reopens the generator with the same format and size.

Limitations

  • Size cap: 512 MiB per file, because the file is built in browser memory. Very large files may be slow on low-RAM devices.
  • File content: Files are small valid templates plus padding. A generated PDF is one page reading “Dummy PDF”; images are 1×1 pixels padded to the target size.
  • Media files: MP3, MP4 and WebM are minimal shells for MIME and size tests and may not play in media players.
